25 is an easy number

At the age of 24 I have reduced my hours at my new job and gone part time. This fox I spray painted as the featured image has nothing to do with this post apart from the fact I’m super proud of it.

I cannot actually believe I have made that statement at my age, about work, not the fox. Although at 24 should I be this proud of spray painting a fox bright pink? Anyway!

I started working for a new company 3 weeks ago and today I had a meeting with my line manager and requested to reduce my hours. I cannot honestly be more thankful for how great my manager was about the whole situation. She was understanding and couldn’t be more helpful.

Luckily I have my week off now and can spend the week relaxing. Prepare yourself for Harry Potter studio updates and wedding photos (not mine, a friend’s) because that’s what this week is all about! Pretty ecstatic times if I do say so myself.

I’ve told my manager that when I feel well enough I will take on extra over time to make up hours here and there because it is extremely busy at the moment but she just said that my health comes first. I don’t think I’ve ever worked somewhere that made that statement.

It might not be the most exciting job in the world but how many places are that excepting of just letting you go from full time to 25hrs after such a short length of time? 5, 5hr shifts a week is right what I need. My fatigue has really been getting on top of me, I haven’t been eating properly and just all together haven’t been taking care of myself from sheer tiredness and constantly just wanting to lie down. I’m hoping this change helps out a bit.

Short and sweet today, hope you’re all having a fantastic Friday!!

  3. You might be totally surprised

  1. Brilliant to hear you have such a supportive employer, especially after such a short time in employment! I’m happy for you! My employer is brilliant too but I’ve worked for them for 15 years. I’m considering reducing to a 30 hour week depending on how I respond to Lemtrada, and I know they will be just as supportive xxx

    1. Honestly I was so surprised! I’ve had 2 previous employers since diagnoses and both were very negative about the whole thing and not helpful so I was expecting it all to be a bit of a fight! It’s so good to see positive stories from other people too 😊 The one thing I’ve found since Lemtrada is the tiredness, I felt so good in my initial few weeks recoveryx that I think I really over did it, I advise to rest as much as you can 😂 xx

  2. I know it is not really easy reducing your hours, but I am so glad you have an understanding and supportive employer. Having a supervisor that is actually compassionate and understanding makes a huge difference. I know this from personal experience as I have had a number of managers that were not understanding in the least. Thankfully, my manager now is pretty understanding which is probably because he has a friend that has MS. Never thought I would be thankful that someone else deals with this illness, but at least my manager is pretty great!!!

    1. Ah that’s so good Alyssa!! Yeah it is unfortunate that the understanding is because of someone else having go through this sort of thing too but at the same time at least it makes for a more understanding person!

      1. It is kind of sad that it takes either someone experiencing something for themselves or someone close to them dealing with it for people to really understand. I am thankful that my supervisor understands though. I almost think he would understand even if his friend didn’t have MS. There are some good people out there in the world! I hope you have a great day!!!

  3. I’m so glad you made a decision to reduce your hours if this is what you need, and that your line manager was good about it. You should be proud of yourself for that because I know it wouldn’t have been an easy thing to do. Having the week off to relax and enjoy some positive things sounds like just what you need! And you should be proud about the pink fox too, it’s pretty funky! I really do hope the time away from work for a little bit and then the reduced hours mean you can get a little more rest and get on top of prioritising your health again. Sending hugs… Caz xx

    1. Honestly I was so blown away by the fact they were understanding! Isn’t it funny how blown away you can be when a manager understands when realistically it should be more we are surprised when people aren’t understanding. Maybe that time will come one day! 🙄😂 Hope you’re well Caz! Hopefully the wee fox will look delightful in my house once it’s decorated 😂 xx
